Artist's Description

United States Air Force, Northrup T-38 Talon, which is one of America's primary (supersonic) jet trainers. It was the world's first supersonic trainer and also the most produced. The T-38 remains in service as of 2020 in several air forces. The United States Air Forces (USAF) operates the most T-38's. The first flight was 10 April 1959, and they have built 1,146 of them. Max speed is 857 mph (1,380 kph; 745 kts, with a service ceiling of 50,000 feet. All student pilots going through the USAF UPT (undergraduate pilot training program) flew the T37 and the T38 aircraft while earning their wings. I flew them both in 1984 while earning my wings. I went through my UPT course, and was based at Williams Air Force Base (which we all called Willy), located just outside of Phoenix Arizona. The base was decommissioned sometime ago, and now it's a civilian airfield called Williams Gateway Airport. I really enjoyed flying this airplane and so I did a couple of paintings of it (back in 1984...

About Rick Hansen

Rick Hansen

Rick was born in St.Cloud Minnesota in 1958. He attended St Cloud State University and received a BFA in Fine Arts. Rick also minored in Aviation Technology while working towards his degree in Fine Arts. He joined the United States Air Force Reserve, and served for nine years giving him a chance to pursue his love of flying. Rick still fly's commercially, which has afforded him the opportunity to travel and see parts of the world. Although he enjoys flying, Rick decided to continue his education in the field of art. This led him to attend The Minnesota River Valley School of Arts, where he took two years of portrait classes from the director Pat Jerde. Rick is a dedicated Plein Air artist, and always carries a sketch pad...
