Landscape with a winding dirt road, passing by several oak trees. I painted this scene in late September, when the leaves were just starting to change color. The twisted oak tree was sitting all by itself in the bright sunlight, just asking to be painted, since it stood out from all of the rest of the trees. It had a lot of character and that's what I was trying to capture with this painting.
This painting was also highlighted in Southwest Art Magazine's November 2004 issue, ("Coast to Coast: Best of the West" article). The painting was also juried into the Gilcrease Museum's annual "Miniatures in American Art" show in November 2004, and several other national juried shows. It has been an extremely popular painting.
Rick was born in St.Cloud Minnesota in 1958. He attended St Cloud State University and received a BFA in Fine Arts. Rick also minored in Aviation Technology while working towards his degree in Fine Arts. He joined the United States Air Force Reserve, and served for nine years giving him a chance to pursue his love of flying. Rick also flew commercially for many years and this gave him the opportunity to travel and see many parts of the world. Although he enjoys flying, Rick decided to continue his education in the field of art. This led him to attend The Minnesota River Valley School of Arts, where he took two years of portrait classes from the director Pat Jerde.
